This is my mantra! I am choosing to be FOR what I want rather than waste my thoughts and words being against anything. I especially choose not to give any power to McCain and Palin.
BUT…before I completely settle into this new-found and peaceful philosophy, I HAVE to comment about Governor Palin’s reference to Pit Bull’s. I do, afterall, write primarily about animals…and I own a Pit Bull.
Sarah Palin:
Question: “What’s the difference between a hockey Mom and a Pit Bull?”
Answer: “Lipstick!”
A clever quip, I’ll give her that, but everyone needs to STOP using the term “Pit Bull” synonymously with tenacity, attacks, and violence.
I blogged about dog attack statistics last month and you all learned that every dog has a bite history, with the exception of Beagles and Basset Hounds. Palin could have easily said lipstick was the difference between a soccer Mom and a Bisenji, right? Still, the negative reference to dogs in any way is offensive to me. As Obama said in his speech last Thursday, “ENOUGH!”
Pit Bulls have such a consistent and sweet demeanor that they’ve been referred to as the baby-sitter dogs. They’re only viscous fighters if taught to do so by unscrupulous owners. Case in point: Leo, a Pit Bull rescued from the Michael Vick hell hole, and rehabilitated into a therapy dog. To learn more about Leo go to:

Before I leave you I want to quote a comment from reader Phillip Steir, made to Timothy Egan’s New York Times column, Outposts:
“The fact that Sarah Palin calls herself pro-life, yet has that same blood lust for killing, now in the 21st Century, says more about her than anything else so far expressed by the media. Killing animals for the sheet pleasure it brings her…says a lot about her values and her ethics. Do we really want her 15th Century values in the White House now, after we just (barely) lived through what Bush accomplished with a 19th Century cowboy value system?”
What are you FOR?
